Grade 9-12 ONtario Math Support Online VIA Zoom

1:1 Math Confidence Tutoring

Personalized math support for Ottawa high school students who are trying hard but quietly losing confidence in math. Sessions are intentionally designed around each student’s needs and focus on building confidence through successful problem-solving, so students learn to trust their own thinking again.

Math Support Designed to Build…

  • Trust in their own thinking through independent problem-solving.
  • Understanding that connects ideas across different problems.
  • Stronger strategies for approaching unfamiliar questions.
  • More intentional and effective study habits.
  • Confidence and resilience when math feels challenging.

What a 1:1 Session Looks Like

At Inquisia, 1:1 sessions follow a proven, three-step methodology grounded in learning science. The goal is to build learning skills such as metacognition, strategy selection, and self-monitoring, so students become more confident, and independent learners over time.

Sessions are always centred around what the student wants or needs to work on. Most of the time, the next topic is chosen together at the end of the previous session, based on what still feels unclear or what’s coming up in class.

For the very first session, we begin with a short meet & greet where the student and I talk through their goals and interests and select the first topic we’ll work on together.

Each session begins by surfacing what the student already knows about the topic. This warms up their thinking and helps identify gaps or misconceptions, so new learning builds on a solid foundation rather than guesswork or rushing ahead.

Next, we open up our Zoom whiteboard and students work through problems similar to what they’re likely to encounter on tests or exams. They do the thinking and solving, while guidance comes through strategic questions and prompts that help them test strategies, notice patterns, and make sense of mistakes along the way.

At the end of the session, we step back and organize ideas into a clear framework the student can rely on beyond tutoring. Key strategies and insights are captured together in shared notes (through Google Docs), helping students develop flexible understanding that transfers into class and future learning.

Thank you so much, Brenna! I rarely see my daughter that enthusiastic — she was really happy with the session!
