Study Groups

A Guided Small Group Learning Community

Study Groups are designed for students who are working hard, but still feel stuck or discouraged when it comes to math. These small-group sessions bring together up to 8 students in the same course, meeting weekly with a facilitator for guided workshops based on what the group needs most. Here, learning becomes more engaging, collaborative, and far less isolating. Students build a strong sense of community within their group, where they feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, sharing ideas, and encouraging one another as they learn.

Math Support Designed to Build…

  • Confidence in their thinking… so they begin to trust themselves instead of second-guessing every step.
  • Deeper understanding that actually sticks… so they know when, why, and how to apply what they’ve learned.
  • Stronger awareness of their own learning… so they can recognize what they understand, where they’re stuck, and what to try next.
  • Effective study habits that go beyond math… so they know exactly what to do to get the results they want.
  • Greater independence in learning… so they can work through challenges on their own, while also knowing when and how to ask for help.

What a Study Group Session Looks Like

At Inquisia, all of our programs follow the same 3-step methodology grounded in learning science. The goal isn’t just to pass the next test, but to build strong understanding while developing the learning skills that help students think through problems, choose effective strategies, and approach math with greater confidence and independence.

Each session is centred around one core concept, selected based on what students are learning in class and where they’re feeling stuck or unsure. This keeps sessions focused, relevant, and immediately helpful.

Rather than following a fixed curriculum, the direction of each session is shaped by the group. At the end of each workshop, students reflect on what still feels unclear and vote on the next topic, helping them take an active role in their learning.

Before the program begins, we host a 30-minute meet & greet where students get to know their facilitator and one another, and choose the first topic they’ll work on together.

Each session begins with a quick check-in, giving students a chance to connect, settle in, and ease into the learning environment.

From there, we move into recalling what students already know about the topic. All new learning needs to connect to existing understanding, so this step is essential for making learning feel clear and meaningful, rather than overwhelming.

It also allows the facilitator to identify any misconceptions or gaps early on, ensuring that students are building on a strong foundation as the session progresses.

Next, students move into active problem-solving. They work through questions similar to what they’ll encounter on tests and assignments, applying what they already know and building on it as they go.

Rather than being given step-by-step instructions, students are encouraged to think through the problem themselves. The facilitator provides strategic guidance through questions and prompts, helping them test ideas, make connections, and adjust their approach when something doesn’t work.

This is where confidence begins to grow, as students experience what it feels like to arrive at an answer through their own thinking.

This is where the real learning begins to take shape. Students are guided to step back and think more deeply about the work they’ve done throughout the session.

They reflect on mistakes and what they reveal, revisit the steps they took to solve problems, and consider why a particular approach worked and when it might not. They compare different strategies, begin to form clear rules for when to use each one, and make connections to previously learned topics.

Over time, this helps students see math not as a series of isolated steps, but as a set of interconnected ideas they can understand and navigate with confidence.

Meet Your Facilitator

I’m Brenna, the founder of Inquisia and the facilitator behind each Study Group. I hold a BSc in Biology with a strong concentration in math, and have over a decade of experience supporting high school students.

I’m passionate about helping students who feel discouraged in math begin to see how capable they really are. That’s why, in each session, I don’t simply re-explain concepts. Instead, I guide students as they work through problems themselves, so they can build confidence by seeing their own ideas work in real time.

Study Groups are especially meaningful to me because they go beyond building understanding, they create a supportive community where students learn from one another and grow together.

We are so glad to have found Brenna. My daughter says that she looks forward to the sessions, which is not something she has ever said about math!

Upcoming Study Groups

Starting September 2026

We’re planning Study Groups for Fall 2026, beginning in late September and running through to January exams.

Groups will be created based on student interest, course, and availability, with students matched alongside others in the same class so they’re learning and working through the same material together.

If you’re interested in having your child join, you can fill out the form below to join the interest list. We’ll be in touch in late August with more details on available groups and next steps for registration.
